Training
The Oracle database and it's ever-growing compliment of applications is more complex everyday. How do you keep up?
Heavyweight Internet Group has the answer. With a long list of technology training courses, you can learn from industry experts in areas catered to your company's specific needs.
Real Application Clusters
Oracle introduced Oracle Parallel Server (OPS) with version 7.x of the database, which with various version changes, grew into what today is known as Real Application Clusters. Many of the problems which plagued early implementations of database clustering, such as cache coherency related pinging, have all but been eliminated in the latest and great Oracle implementation. In this course you'll learn how to get 9i RAC running on Linux with lowcost Firewire hardware. Everything from OS installation, hardware setup, Oracle Cluster Manager installation, Oracle Database installation, creation, and configuration will all be covered. In addition, details of Oracle's RAC caching will be discussed.
Backup and Recovery
Backup and Recovery has always been a crucial, and often overlooked area of database administration. Done right, it will go mostly unnoticed, but done wrong, and you could wind up in a serious bind. This course will discuss logical backups using Oracle's export utility, cold backups, hot backups, and using RMAN to backup small and large size Oracle databases.
SQL Query Tuning
SQL queries are the heart of any database application. Interaction with the database is all done with this often mysterious language. Oracle is a powerful database engine, able to navigate terabytes of data quickly, and efficiently. But that all depends on properly written SQL queries, accessing the right type of well-organized and indexed tables. All of these areas will be discussed in detail in this course. We'll go over the proper layout of tables and indexes, how to use bind variables in your application code, and how to track down slow running queries, and trace them to the source of the problem.
HA with Dataguard
Oracle's Dataguard, formerly standby database, provides a powerful and feature-rich way to maintain a synchronized clone of your production database at one or more distributed locations accross the internet. Learn to setup and configure this software to make the most of it's powerful features, and ensure proper failover with firedrill testing.
Database Security
For years, operating systems have been plagued by attacks. Worms, viruses, trojans, and spyware. As more corporate data moves into large database datawarehouses, the database itself is increasingly the target of attacks. SQL Injection is one term you've probably heard a lot about. But Oracle software, like any other, has bugs, and a few buffer-overflow vulnerabilities have been found. Despite your good OS security, and firewall at the perimeter, there may be other areas you haven't looked at. We'll discuss all areas of database security from good passwords, protected db files and backups, to securing applications against SQL Injection, and even sophisticated fine grained access control and auditing.
9i New Features
A lot has changed from Oracle 8 to Oracle 9, and despite the release of 10g, there are many companies still considering the jump from 8 to 9. In this course, We'll discuss such topics as automatic rollback segment management, security enhancements such as encrypting stored data and row-level access control, flashback query, multiple block sizes, oracle managed files, spfile + persistent parameter changes, and much more.
10g New Features
The release of 10g earlier this year marked a major achievement for the Oracle database. Much has changed, and a lot of new code has been added. Take a peak at whats coming with this course. We'll discuss Automatic Storage Manager (ASM), automatic shared memory management, virtual private database, changes to the wait interface for zeroing in on performance problems, enterprise manager changes, Oracle Data Pump, Flashback Table, and much much more.
